About
Haida Way Restaurant, situated along the scenic Trans-Canada Highway in Chemainus, BC, offers a rustic charm paired with a warm, inviting atmosphere. As a seasoned food reviewer, I found the staff notably friendly and attentive—service that adds an essential layer to the dining experience. The restaurant strikes a balance between promptness and hospitality, making every guest feel well cared for even on busy days.
The menu reveals a hearty focus on classic comfort foods, elevated with fresh ingredients and thoughtful preparation. The beef dip sandwich stood out with its fresh bun and perfectly crisp fries, delivering robust flavor despite an unexpected lighter-colored dipping sauce. Breakfast options like omelettes with hash browns and freshly brewed coffee provide satisfying starts to the day, coming to the table swiftly and tasting reliably good.
While steak may have been a miss for one patron, the dinner offerings more than made up for it—described as tasty and amazing by regulars. Particularly, the Pacific seafood chowder, though occasionally subject to delays, promises a rich regional taste reflecting the Pacific coast’s bounty. The combination of thoughtful service, quality dishes, and a cozy setting makes Haida Way Restaurant a destination worth returning to for both locals and travelers exploring British Columbia’s culinary landscape.
“ Got the steak medium and eggs over easy…. Unfortunately the steak was burnt and VERY grisly, didn’t finish it. Dinner on the other hand… OMG all three dishes were tasty and amazing! Can’t tell you about the Pacific seafood chowder as it unfortunately never arrived at the table! ”
“ “DDs” service was outstanding , she was so busy but tended to us quickly and professionally… food came out a “bit slow” according to her we may have waited 30 minutes. … coffee refills kept coming and was so incredibly tentative with out being over bearing every one she was serving seemed completely content the place was packed and we seriously had the best service we have had in years thank you for being here we realy appreciate you ! ”
“ Haida way has a rustic charm and friendly staff. Our server was timely and cheerful. We had the beef dip and stir-fry. Mine (the beef dip) had a fresh bun and just the right amount of beef. The fries were crisp with a perfect crunch on the outside. The dip was not as dark colored as I am used to seeing but had good flavor. The color threw me off thinking it was watered down but had great taste. The stir fry was so yummy my wife cleaned the whole plate with just the right mix of veggies. (some just fill the plate with bell peppers, this was not the case here). All in all I Would recomend the place. The table tops could use a refresh. Enjoyed the food and service! May 18 Tried some stir fry I got a chicken and shrimp stirfry. The noodles were spaghetti noodles that had flavor notes like they were cooked in Italian spice water. This threw my taste buds off. The sauce had what seemed like peanut oil and a sweet sauce so by having three flavor notes it just turned my stomach. I would remove this from the menu. I don't recomend these stirfrys. ”
“ I visited Haida Way for the first time this morning and ordered an omelette with hash browns, toast, and coffee. Service was good, and my food arrived to the table quickly. The meal and coffee tasted fine - no issues at all. I will return. ”
